On the plains of Tarangire, dotted with ancient baobab trees, elephants gather in herds hundreds strong, scratching dry riverbeds in search of underground springs. Rare black rhinos roam the floor of the Ngorongoro Crater, which harbors Africa’s densest concentration of wildlife. Beyond, on the sweeping savannas of the Serengeti, hundreds of thousands of wildebeest and zebra flow in endless columns during the Great Migration, trailed by stealthy feline predators in their pursuit of new grass watered by seasonal rains. When you join us in Secluded Tanzania, you’ll witness some of the continent’s most extraordinary animal spectacles in iconic safari destinations…yet we take you far off the well-trodden track for a rare experience of the African wild.

Our Tanzania safari begins in Arusha, with a transfer from the airport to Arusha Coffee Lodge, set on a working coffee estate. Set off by road this morning for Tarangire National Park, with our first exhilarating wildlife drive en route once we enter the park bounds. Seldom-visited Tarangire, the “Baobab Capital of the World,” teems with wildlife. Herds of up to 300 elephants scratch the dry riverbed for underground streams while migratory wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, impala, gazelle and eland crowd the shrinking lagoons. Tarangire is also one place in northern Tanzania where we occasionally see dry-country antelope such as oryx and gerenuk. After a sunrise breakfast, depart the Lodge for a final wildlife drive in Tarangire National Park. Bask in the quiet morning solitude while watching for elephants, impala and possibly even a pack of wild dogs trotting across the savanna. Exiting the park, we ascend to the Ngorongoro Highlands, stopping to visit a local school where our tourism dollars directly support the local community. At morning’s first light, board 4×4 safari vehicles to descend the steep walls of the world’s largest unbroken volcanic caldera. Here, we find Africa’s densest concentration of wildlife, attracted to the constant water present on the 100-square-mile crater floor. Among a multitude of species, look for zebra, wildebeest, gazelle and eland, and the lion and hyena that prey upon them. If we are exceptionally fortunate, we may spot an endangered black rhinoceros. Spend a full day exploring the crater, with a picnic lunch along the way. Late this afternoon, we exit the crater rim for overnight at Ngorongoro Crater Lodge. Dinner, breakfast, lunch included.

Leaving the volcanic highlands behind, we drive the Serengeti Plains, one of Africa’s most legendary safari locales. These expansive grasslands are home to a profusion of wildlife throughout the year. We spend two nights on Central Serengeti National park. Overnight at Serengeti four seasons Safari Lodge.

After lovely breakfast we drive to the northern Serengeti, we reach Sayari Camp, our base for a four-day immersion in Africa’s Great Migration. In accord with the herds’ seasonal movements, the camp is located in the northern Serengeti. This deluxe permanent camp outpost rests within one of the main movement corridors for hundreds of thousands of wildebeest, zebra and gazelle and an accompanying cast of predators. Each year, the herds trek 1,800 miles from Kenya’s Maasai Mara to the southern Serengeti and back again.

After a final wildlife drive this morning, fly back to Arusha where the hot lunch is provided at Arusha coffee Lodge, after lunch you may want to relax by the pool, or enjoy the view from your private veranda before our welcome dinner this evening.

In the morning after lovely breakfast, we will collect you at The African Tulip Hotel and take you to the Arusha National Park. The park has an incredible variety of fauna and flora, which cannot fail to impress. Hollywood also chose this region to film the movie “Hatari” in which Hardy Kruger starred alongside the legendary John Wayne. Your day trip will include a visit to the Ngurdo Crater. Buffaloes, waterbucks, giraffes, warthogs, zebras and baboons can be seen all year round as well as many different bird species. At the Momella Gate, an armed ranger will be waiting for you to accompany you on your walking safari that will give you the chance to experience the wildlife up-close. Only a few other national parks in Tanzania give you such an opportunity and it is something that should not be missed. Lunch will be taken at a picnic place and in the afternoon, you will continue your tour in the safari vehicle through the Arusha National Park. After plenty of time allocated for you to observe the wildlife, late afternoon we will take you to Kia Lodge where a day room is provided, where you will have a shower before our Tanzania safari ends with a transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport to meet departing flights this evening.
